Thailand deposited its instrument of accession on 30 June 2026. The Apostille Convention enters into force for Thailand on 28 February 2027. Until that date a Turkish apostille is not sufficient; the consular chain (sworn translation, notary, district attestation, MFA, Thailand Embassy in Ankara) applies. After 28 February 2027, an apostille on covered public documents is expected to replace embassy legalisation — confirm with the receiving institution during the transition. Step-by-step process
Sworn translation
Your Turkish document is translated by a court-appointed sworn translator into the required language.
Notarisation
The translator's signature is notarised by a Turkish notary public.
District or provincial attestation
The notarised translation is attested by the district governorship (kaymakamlık) or governorship (valilik). This is an attestation, not an apostille.
YÖK or MEB approval (education documents only)
University documents need YÖK approval and school documents MEB approval before the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will attest them.
Ministry of Foreign Affairs
Attested by Turkey's Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Ankara. An appointment is required, so timing follows the ministry's calendar.
Thailand Embassy attestation
Document submitted to Thailand Embassy in Ankara for final attestation. Timing depends on the embassy's workload.
Delivery
Attested documents returned by courier or office pickup.
Timeline
Translation and notary usually finish the same day. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs appointment and, for education documents, the YÖK step set the overall calendar; we do not promise a fixed number of days for appointment-based steps.
Thai authorities accept both English and Thai translations. For most official purposes, English is accepted.
