Turkish Document Apostille for Australia

Australia is a Hague Apostille Convention member. For most Turkish public documents destined for use there, a single apostille is sufficient — no Australian embassy or consulate step in Ankara is required.

The frequent extra rule is who translates, not whether an apostille is needed.

The process

1. Sworn translation — only after you know whether the receiving office accepts a Turkish sworn translation or requires a NAATI-certified translation prepared in Australia
2. Notarization of the translator’s signature (for the Turkish sworn path)
3. Apostille, issued by the provincial administration (kaymakamlık/valilik) for most document types, or by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for certain categories such as university diplomas and some official-body documents

What to check before assuming this is all you need

• Department of Home Affairs (DHA) and some state authorities specify NAATI-certified translation. A Turkish yeminli translation plus apostille is not automatically treated as the same product. Confirm the checklist before translating in Ankara, or the apostille work may sit on a translation DHA will not file.
• Skills-assessment bodies (engineers, nurses, teachers) often want documents sent in a prescribed format — sealed transcripts, specific name order, or their own upload portal. Apostille does not override those portals.

• Adjudicative/legal documents (court rulings, criminal record certificates) use a different apostille authority than standard documents — confirm before starting.
