Turkish Document Apostille for Canada

Canada is a Hague Apostille Convention member. For most Turkish public documents destined for use there, a single apostille is sufficient — no Canadian embassy or consulate step in Ankara is required.

Apostille authenticates the Turkish public document. It does not replace a WES/ECA educational credential assessment, an IRCC document checklist, or a provincial regulator’s own verification.

The process

1. Sworn translation (if the document is not already in English or French as required by the receiving office)
2. Notarization of the translator’s signature
3. Apostille, issued by the provincial administration (kaymakamlık/valilik). The apostille is affixed to the notary’s signature. University diplomas on this Hague path do not go to Turkish MFA and do not require YÖK.

What to check before assuming this is all you need

• WES, IQAS, ICES, and similar ECA bodies run their own sealed-envelope or electronic-transcript rules. An apostille on a diploma copy you already hold is not the same as an ECA file. Start the assessment track in parallel; do not assume apostille completes it.
• IRCC and provincial nominees publish document lists that specify original vs copy, which language, and whether the apostille must sit on the original, the translation, or both. Follow that list, not a generic apostille blog.
• University diplomas — Hague ends at apostille. YÖK is not required. MEB is not required for high-school apostille. See our diploma legalization guide.
• Adjudicative/legal documents (court rulings, criminal record certificates) use a different apostille authority than standard documents — confirm before starting.
