Turkish Document Apostille for Italy

Italy is a Hague Apostille Convention member. For most Turkish public documents destined for use there, a single apostille is sufficient — no Italian embassy or consulate step in Ankara is required.

Comune, questura, and university-recognition desks still set their own filing rules after that stamp.

The process

1. Sworn translation into Italian (unless the receiving office has confirmed another language in writing)
2. Notarization of the translator’s signature
3. Apostille, issued by the provincial administration (kaymakamlık/valilik). The apostille is affixed to the notary’s signature. University diplomas on this Hague path do not go to Turkish MFA and do not require YÖK.

What to check before assuming this is all you need

• Comune and questura files often want the apostille on the original Turkish civil-status extract, plus a sworn Italian translation. Apostille-on-translation-only is a common rejection at the counter.
• Criminal-record extracts (adli sicil) have a short practical validity window for many Italian procedures. Apostille a stale extract and the questura may still refuse the file. Order the extract when the rest of the packet is ready.
• University diplomas — Hague ends at apostille. YÖK is not required. CIMEA or university recognition in Italy is a separate track — see our diploma legalization guide.
• Adjudicative/legal documents (court rulings, criminal record certificates) use a different apostille authority than standard documents — confirm before starting.
