Living in Turkey as a Digital Nomad or Remote Worker — Document Package

Turkey is one of the most accessible countries in the region for remote workers. Short-term tourist stays are easy. Converting that into a legal long-term residence — with a valid address, health insurance, and a bank account — requires a set of certified documents.

Beta Çeviri prepares every document your Turkish residence application needs. We handle the translation and notarisation; our partner attorney handles the immigration filing.

Why Turkey Works for Remote Workers

No dedicated digital nomad visa (yet) — residence permit works

Turkey doesn't have a dedicated digital nomad visa, but a short-term residence permit (kısa dönem ikamet izni) can be obtained for 1–2 years and renewed.

Low cost, high quality of life

Istanbul, Ankara, Antalya, Bodrum — cities with fast internet, international schools, and expat communities.

Time zone

UTC+3 — overlaps with Europe and reaches Central Asia.

Tax efficiency

Turkey has double taxation agreements with 90+ countries. Remote workers earning from abroad may benefit from favourable tax treatment.

Income Proof — What Counts?

Turkish immigration accepts several forms of income documentation:

  • Employment contract from a foreign employer confirming remote work — must be translated into Turkish.
  • Freelance/consulting agreement — showing ongoing income. Sworn Turkish translation required if in another language.
  • Bank statements — typically last 3–6 months showing consistent deposits.
  • Payroll records or payslips — supporting the employment contract.

We translate all of the above and advise on what your specific situation requires.

Health Insurance — The Critical Requirement

Turkey requires that your health insurance policy explicitly covers Turkey and is valid for the duration of your residence permit. Some international policies cover Turkey; many do not.

If your policy is in English, German, or another language, the Turkish translation of the policy and its Turkey coverage clause must be notarised.

We frequently translate health insurance policies from:

  • AXA (Germany, France, UK, Belgium)
  • Cigna Global
  • SafetyWing
  • Allianz International
  • BUPA International

Frequently Asked Questions

How long can I stay in Turkey without a residence permit?
Most nationalities receive 90 days within any 180-day period. For a longer stay, a residence permit application must be filed before the 90 days expire.
Can I work for Turkish clients on a residence permit?
A residence permit (ikamet) does not authorise working for Turkish companies or clients. If you earn from Turkish sources, a work permit is required. Remote workers earning from abroad in foreign currency operate in a different category — consult our partner attorney for your specific situation.
My employer contract is confidential — is translation safe?
All documents handled by Beta Çeviri are treated with strict confidentiality. Sworn translators are bound by professional secrecy.
Do I need an apostille on my criminal record?
Yes, if your criminal record is from a country that issues apostilles. We guide you through obtaining it in your home country.
